The year 2021 imposed itself from the month of January with snow, and twice! We couldn’t believe our eyes to see this beautiful white carpet in the cobbled streets of Colmar. It must be said that we had not seen it for several years and especially with this thickness. THE
surprises continued with temperatures – out of the ordinary. We went from 28°C to -1.5°C in the same week at the beginning of April. The stage of development of our vines being – fortunately, not very advanced in Alsace, made it possible to limit the damage of frost on the
buds.
The trend continued in May with average temperatures that hardly exceeded 10°C, they had never been so low since 1991. Rainfall was added to the pattern and followed one another daily or almost.
June promised to be warmer but the weather remained rainy: these hot and humid conditions were favorable to the development of mildew.

Then August arrived, development progressed slowly but surely thanks to the rise in temperature which made it possible to accelerate veraison. This is the time of year when the grape takes on the final color it will have when ripe. These conditions were welcome
for cluster evolution.
The harvest was announced to be later than the previous vintages. Some will say it’s a normal year, others will say it’s late.
Who’s wrong ? Who is right ? We’ll let you ponder on it.
