Our vineyard

The family-run property, Domaine Robert Karcher et Fils, is located in the heart of old Colmar, the capital of Alsace’s vineyards.
Our wines are made exclusively from vines growing in the “Harth de Colmar” area. Its gravelly soil (made up of sand and pebbles) and dry, warm climate in the summer, give our wines character, fruitiness, finesse, and elegance.

The property has about 10 hectares of AOC vines to the North-West of Colmar in La Harth. The vines are between 5 and 8 km from our winery.
This is located in an old farmhouse built in 1602, inside the old Colmar city walls.
At that time, Colmar and the whole of  Alsace was a very busy and highly prized region. This meant that the farms, on which the inhabitants depended for food and drink, tended to be built inside the ramparts, where they would be well-protected.
This district has managed to keep its rustic character. We have the oldest operational cellars in Colmar, with magnificent oak vats, some of which are more than a hundred years-old.
Every year, upholding tradition, we vinify the same grape varieties in the same barrels.
